You may not park your vehicle on the roadway of a public road:
• With an order given by a traffic officer,
• For any situation beyond your control,
• In any place where 'stopping' is prohibited.
• In contravention of any road traffic sign.
• Within 1.5 metres on either side of the fire hydrant.
• Any place where the vehicle would obscure any road traffic sign.
• In such a way that your vehicle impinge on the sidewalk.
• In such a way where your vehicle would block any private or public vehicular entrance.
except in situations beyond your control.
• Outside an urban area within 1 metre of the edge of the road.
At a public road within an urban area no person shall park on the roadway:
• Within 5 metres of any intersection.
• Within 9 metres of a pedestrian crossing.
• Upon or over the setting up of a traffic sign.
• With the wheel of your vehicle more than 450 millimetres within the road
• Which is less than 5.5 metres wide.
• On any of these areas,
(i) traffic island
(ii) in a pedestrian mall
(iii) pedestrian lane.
You may not stop a vehicle on the roadway of a public road:
• Except in order to avoid an accident.
• With the order given by a traffic officer.
• Unless it is for any situation beyond your control.
• Within any tunnel, subway, bridge or within 6 metres of any tunnel, subway or bridge.
• Near or opposite an excavation or any place where stopping would cause obstruction or danger on the public road.
• In violation of any road sign.
• On or within 6 metres from the beginning or end of a road where the normal width thereof has for any reason has been constricted.
• On the right hand side on any road that is facing oncoming traffic.
• Near or opposite other vehicle on road which is less than 9 metres wide.
• At a level crossing within the railway reserve.
• Within 9 metres of a pedestrian crossing.
• Any other place where stopping would create an obstruction or danger to other traffic.
Compulsory StopsThe vehicle driver/ rider should always stop:
• In compliance with any direction communicated by a traffic sign or given by a traffic officer.
• At the request or on the signal of a person heading or driving bovine animals such as horse, donkey, sheep, pig etc.
• If animals are crossing a road and the driver/ rider, may only move when all animals have crossed and the road is safe to continue.
