Retro-Reflectors Motorcycles

If your motorcycle, tricycle is not fitted with a red retro reflector on the rear, then you may not ride it on a public road.

Light Motor Vehicle

The rear of a light motor vehicle must be fitted with two red retro-reflectors, one on each side.

Heavy Motor Vehicle

If a heavy motor vehicle is not fitted with two red retro-reflectors at the same height on the rear, then it should not be driven on a public road.

If the overall length of a heavy motor vehicle or a combination of vehicles exceeds 7 metres, then such vehicle is not allowed on a public road,
unless such vehicle is fitted with so many yellow retro-reflectors on each side to ensure that no two successive yellow retro-reflector are more than 3.6 metres apart,

it is not compulsory to fit a goods vehicle with yellow retro-reflectors, if it is fitted with yellow reflective stripes.

Warning Flags/ Reflectors

If a vehicle is carrying a load that projects more than 150 millimetres to the side, or more than 300 millimetres to the rear, it must be marked by:

• A red flag/ flags (300mm x 300mm) during daytime, and

• Retro reflectors during night time, or

• White retro reflectors to the front and red retro reflectors to the rear, when people and vehicles are not clearly visible due to unfavourable conditions.

Yellow Reflective Material

As from 1 January 2001, yellow reflective material (as prescribed), must be fitted to the sides and rear of all goods vehicles of which the GMV exceeds 10 000 kg.

Goods vehicles with the GMV that does not exceeds 10 000 kg, may be fitted with such strip but it is not compulsory.
